A new instructor, a new routine, and a busy public pool can be a lot for a child to process at once. At-home swim lessons remove some of those unknowns. Your swimmer gets to learn in a pool that already feels familiar, while a certified instructor brings the lesson to you.
For many Kamloops families, that means less rushing and a calmer start. For kids, it can mean more attention available for the skill that matters: becoming safer and more confident in the water.
Familiar water removes one big unknown
Children do not all walk onto a pool deck feeling ready to jump in. Some need time to get comfortable with the sounds, depth, temperature, or feeling of water on their face.
A familiar pool can make that first step easier. Your child already knows where the stairs are, which end feels safe, and what the space sounds like. Instead of adjusting to a new building and a new class at the same time, they can focus on getting to know their instructor and trying the next small skill.
This can be especially helpful for nervous swimmers, younger children, and kids who learn best with predictable surroundings.
Private lessons follow your child's pace
Group lessons can be a great fit for social, confident swimmers. But a group has to move together. A private lesson can slow down, repeat a skill, or change direction based on what your child needs that day.
That might look like:
- spending extra time getting comfortable putting their face in the water
- turning floating practice into a game
- working on one stroke detail without waiting for a turn
- adding more challenge when a swimmer is ready to move ahead
- building water-safety habits around the pool they actually use
There is no pressure to keep up with another child or wait while the rest of a class catches up. The lesson belongs to your swimmer.
Less travel means an easier routine for parents
Swimming lessons often come with a second workout: packing towels, loading the car, finding parking, changing, and getting home around dinner or bedtime.
When the instructor comes to your pool, most of that disappears. Your child can be ready on the deck a few minutes before the lesson and back into the family routine when it ends.
That convenience is not just nice to have. A routine that is easier to manage is often easier to keep consistent—and regular practice usually matters more than chasing one perfect lesson.
The lesson connects to real life
Learning in your own pool, condo pool, or another private pool you regularly use helps your child practise safety where it matters most.
An instructor can teach skills using the pool's actual layout: how to reach the wall, where to enter safely, what the deep end feels like, and how to return to a familiar exit. Those details help turn a general swimming skill into a practical safety habit.
Lessons are only one layer of water safety. Active adult supervision, secure barriers, properly fitted lifejackets when appropriate, and clear family pool rules are still essential—even as a child becomes a stronger swimmer.
What do at-home swim lessons cost in Kamloops?
BecomeAfish keeps the base lesson pricing simple:
- 30 minutes: $40 per lesson
- 45 minutes: $60 per lesson
- 60 minutes: $80 per lesson
Lesson sets and sibling bookings may qualify for package discounts. You will see the exact subtotal, discounts, GST, and total before you pay.
The best lesson length depends on your swimmer, not just their age. A focused 30-minute lesson can be plenty for a young beginner. A 45- or 60-minute lesson may suit an older child, siblings, or a swimmer working on several skills. We can help you choose before you book.
Who will be teaching my child?
BecomeAfish was founded by Claire Garson, a certified instructor with more than six years of experience teaching swimmers in Canada and internationally. Claire holds OFA Level 1, National Lifeguard Service, and Water Safety Instructor certifications.
Our instructors are selected for both safety qualifications and the ability to help children feel comfortable. Families can see who is assigned to their booking, and we aim to keep the same instructor throughout a lesson set so your child can build trust and momentum.
Is my pool suitable for lessons?
You do not need an Olympic-sized pool. Many backyard and private pools work well for lessons. What matters is having safe access, enough usable space for the swimmer's goals, and clear information about the pool before the first visit.
If you are unsure, send us your address and a few pool details. We will confirm whether we can serve the location and whether the space is a good fit.
No pool at home? Ask us about available partner-pool options. Access can vary by location and schedule.
A calmer way to build confidence
At-home lessons are not about promising that every child will swim after a certain number of sessions. Progress depends on age, comfort, practice, lesson frequency, and the skills they are starting with.
The goal is simpler: give your child focused teaching, a familiar place to learn, and a routine your family can realistically maintain. That is a strong foundation for safer swimming and real confidence.
